“Exeter’s History in the Monarch Grape” by Chuck Caplinger (2000)

A posed harvest portrait of workers is the centerpiece of Exeter’s 14th mural. It depicts members of the familes instrumental in the growing and harvesting of the once famous Monarch Grape. Packing labels are depicted at the lower end of this mural. The mural was commissioned by Exeter’s Festival of Arts Mural Committee in conjunction with their Chamber of Commerce.

The “Monarch Grape” mural in Exeter features two families who represent the farm, or growers, and the people who provided the labor.  Caplinger puts a strong emphasis on the inclusion of local school kids in his mural assignments.
