Chuck Caplinger’s 18’ x 101’ mural honors the U.S. Marines who served in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. When the troops came home from the Persian Gulf in 1991, more than 40,000 people crowded into the
City for “The Mother of All Victory Parades.” Twentynine Palms, CA, has been home to the Marines since 1952, and the Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Command at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center
(MCAGCC), Twentynine Palms, is now recognized as the world’s largest Marine Corps training base.
Caplinger’s mural is located in downtown Twentynine Palms on the south-facing wall of the Napa Auto Parts store, 6177 Adobe Road. It was dedicated on October 15, 1995, with military band, color guard, and the
presiding Commander of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) in attendance.
