“A Celebration of Riding” immortalizes this horse community’s love of rural life and its longtime appreciation for nature and animals, especially horses. Caplinger’s own love for horses, Native-American art, and the
preservation of Western history added artistic inspiration for this mural, which captures not only the history of the local equestrian culture but also its current activities and longtime, ongoing personalities.
The mural was dedicated June 5, 2004.
Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, Ontario, CA, 04-15-04:
“The Norco mural represents the first time Caplinger has painted living people. At a raffle at City Hall ... Mayor Frank Hall pulled 10 names from a hat, selecting six men and four women [from the local horse community] to be depicted on the mural. Councilman Kathy Azevedo said Caplinger understands the city, and that his painting represents the heart of the community. “We know who we are in Norco,” Azevedo told Caplinger when they first met. Caplinger agreed. “It’s very important for a city to have a direction and stick with it,” he said.
